Pattani, one of the three southernmost provinces of Thailand, has seen decades of political conflicts. With great loss of life and property, both on the military and the civil sides, the province is labelled a red zone. To the locals, however, Pattani is still seen as “home”. The mystique surrounding “living in the red zone” constantly attracts curious tourists to the province. Commonly asked questions include “Is it safe to go?”, “Is it terrifying?”, “Is it good to live there?”
There is deep ambivalence about Pattani, be it the fear and trepidation or fascination for the province, something hard to articulate. This board game brings to the spotlight some aspects of Pattani generally witnessed only by the locals. As such it allows players to set off on a quest to find their own answers.

ความหวาดหวั่นต่อสถานการณ์ความรุนแรง หรือความรู้สึกหลงใหลในปัตตานี ไม่มีใครบอกได้อย่างชัดเจนว่าเป็นเช่นไร บอร์ดเกมนี้จะพาเรื่องราวบางส่วนในปัตตานีออกมานอกพื้นที่ปัตตานี เพื่อให้ผู้คนได้รับรู้และหาคำตอบด้วยตัวเอง
REMARKS
The content of the cards are based on media coverage of incidents of violence in the province of Pattani. Some information is derived from the victims themselves. All rules, conditions and relationships between each character are fictitious, not based on real people or incidents. “The game’s identification with actual incidents is not in any case to be taken as the final verdict on Pattani.”
The number of players will be 3-9 people each round. Each round will take about 30-60 mins depending on the number of players and we would like to ask you to share comments/opinions when the game finishes.

About Us
Artist l Anis Nagasevi, an artist who is based in Pattani and owner of RIP Café that is not ‘rest in peace’ but it is ‘rest in Pattani’. He likes to play games, watch movies, listen to music and printmaking, usually in black and white style. This board game is his first colorful artwork. Recently, he directed a documentary film titled ‘Pattani Landlord’ about the issues of insurgency and waste management.
Curator l Soifa Saenkhamkon works in both art and independent film scenes, sometimes as a curator and often as a casting director for many Thai independent films. She used to think that curation and casting seemed incompatible but eventually they get along well.
