DESCRIPTION

The Four Seasons is a group of four violin concerti by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, each of which gives musical expression to a season of the year. They were written around 1716–1717 and published in 1725 in Amsterdam. The Four Seasons is the best known of Vivaldi's works. Unusually for the period, Vivaldi published the concerti with accompanying sonnets (possibly written by the composer himself) that elucidated what it was in the spirit of each season that his music was intended to evoke. The concert therefore stand as one of the earliest and most detailed examples of what would come to be called program music (music with a narrative element).

They were a revolution in musical conception: in them Vivaldi represented flowing creeks, singing birds (of different species, each specifically characterized), a shepherd and his barking dog, buzzing flies, storms, drunken dancers, hunting parties from both the hunters' and the prey's point of view, frozen landscapes, and warm winter fires.

The performance is an unprecedented event where classical music live performance combine with modern animated visuals with each season; spring, summer, autumn and winter, being interpreted by 4 visual contemporary artists from different backgrounds including photography, videography, 3D animation and illustration held at Quaint Bangkok, Sukhumvit 61.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons historical point of ‘program music’ will be met with the animated images narrating and observing Thai contemporary society issues of human behaviour and stereotype, the mockery of social and political attitudes as well as the perpetual rewriting of memories striding the ambivalent line between reality and fiction.

Pro Musica

In 1958, Pro Musica came into being as a string quartet and subsequently grew into a small chamber orchestra. The orchestra received much support from the Goethe Institute, various cultural missions, and a few business concerns. It became Thailand’s first non-government professional orchestra with the aim of promoting classical music in Thailand. The orchestra performed regularly until 1975 when it metamorphosed into the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. Recently, it became apparent that there was still a need for a small and more mobile chamber orchestra. Thus the Pro Musica Orchestra was revived. Director, Tasana Nagavajara Violin.
