When we planned the ‘Doomsday’ show we asked artists to comment on the environment, politics, health, human rights, free speech… Little did we know that the Covid-19 pandemic would alter our lives for the foreseeable future. Art galleries still cannot open so we have selected 23 submissions and pasted them on the walls outside WTF.
As the extent of the Covid-19 pandemic became apparent a group show open-call that would have appeared in the gallery was shifted to the alley outside WTF.
The theme and title, Doomsday was as relevant as never before. The call asked for work in photography, design, illustration or drawing as a visual commentary on the state of things.
“It seems we have run out of luck with the environment, politics, health, human rights, traffic, Tinder matches, getting in shape, finding proper Pad Thai… We want to see how you feel about the end of the world!”
The alley walls become a socially distanced gallery (the gallery and café were on lockdown) that individuals or household bubbles could visit and enjoy the art and the open air space, escaping the confines of house and apartments and mental lockdown.
We also painted a public mural where visitors could write and answer to: “After Covid-19 I will…”

ตอนเราแพลนที่จะจัดนิทรรศการ Doomsday (วันโลกาวินาศ) เราเชิญศิลปินมาสร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่พูดถึงสิ่งแวดล้อม การเมือง สุขภาพ สิทธิมนุษยชน และสิทธิในการแสดงออก ตอนนั้นเรายังไม่รู้ด้วยซ้ำว่าสถานการณ์โควิท-19 จะเกิดขึ้นและเปลี่ยนชีวิตพวกเราไปขนาดนี้ ณ ตอนนี้ แกลลอรี่แสดงงานศิลปะยังไม่ได้รับอนุญาตให้เปิด เราจึงคัดเลือกงานที่ศิลปินส่งเข้ามาทั้งหมด 23 งานและจัดแสดงบนกำแพงในซอยด้านนอก WTF
โดยงานแสดงเหล่านี้จะเปิดให้คนมาเดินดูในซอย WTF ได้ตั้งแต่วันศุกร์ที่ 8 พฤษภาคมนี้ เวลาห้าโมงเย็น
เราได้ทำกำแพงด้านหนึ่งเป็นกระดานดำพร้อมกับคำถามที่ว่า “หลังจบโควิท-19 ฉันจะ...” และขอเชื้อเชิญให้คนที่มาดูงานเขียนคำตอบของตัวเองลงบนนั้น
เนื่องจากการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด -19 ได้ขยายตัวออกไปอย่างชัดเจน นิทรรศการแบบกลุ่มที่ทาง WTF ได้เปิดรับผลงานเข้ามาจัดแสดงในแกลเลอรีจึงถูกย้ายไปที่ตรอกด้านนอกแทน
ผลงานสร้างสรรค์ที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้องกับประเด็นทางด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม การเมือง สิทธิมนุษยชน รวมไปถึงชื่อนิทรรศการ “วันโลกาวินาศ” จึงมีความเชื่อมโยงมากไปกว่าที่เคยเป็นมา
“ ดูเหมือนว่าเราจะโชคไม่ดีกับสิ่งแวดล้อม การเมือง สุขภาพ สิทธิมนุษยชน การจราจร คู่แมตช์ในTinder การมีหุ่นดี หรือแม้แต่จะหาผัดไทยดีๆ ซักจาน…เราจึงอยากเห็นว่าคุณรู้สึกอย่างไรเกี่ยวกับวันสิ้นโลก!”
ดังนั้นกำแพงของซอยจึงกลายเป็นแกลเลอรีที่เว้นระยะห่างทางสังคม (ในขณะที่แกลเลอรีและคาเฟ่อยู่ในช่วงปิดตาย) ที่คนทั่วไปซึ่งส่วนมากกักตัวเองอยู่ในครัวเรือนสามารถเยี่ยมชมและเพลิดเพลินกับงานศิลปะเพือหลีกหนีจากบ้านช่องห้องหับที่ปิดตาย และ สภาพจิตใจที่ดูจะอุดอู้ไม่ต่างกัน
