WHAT THE FESTIVAL 2014

April 26-27

It’s been four creative, fun, inventive years since WTF Cafe & Gallery opened it’s door to Bangkokians. We have always attempted to be a place where conversations and free expression can happen through our creative activities. We’ve continued to provide a platform for artists to exhibit creative work and allow thought provoking and critical analysis of current affairs and social issues particularly in this time of conflict. And if pondering conflict gets too stressful we hope also to be a great place to unwind with our creative cocktails.

To celebrate our 4th anniversary we’ll be putting on a small celebration of the things we do best: art, performance, music, food and drink.

BOMBYX
10pm @ Opposite Mess Hall
Ticket 200 Baht

For one night only, Bombyx will be alive and kicking at this year’s “What The Festival,” with the rich and varied voices of Bombyx storytellers on Saturday,  April 26 at 10:00 pm @ Opposite Mess Hall.  The theme is “Epically Curious: (Mis)Adventures in Food and Drink.”

From the apple that started it all to Dionysius getting his drink on, from “Tampopo"” noodle slurping to lusty feasts at Winterfell, our imaginations have been captured by food, drink, and all the love, passion, heartbreak and hilarity that go with them.

What story will you tell to capture ours? That first dinner with your wife’s scowling mother?  An experience with home-brewed absinthe that went horribly wrong? Can you dish up some dish on dishes that would uncurl Anthony Bourdain’s hair?

In a food-obssessed town like Bangkok, everyone’s got a story and we’re hungry to hear yours.  Send us your pitch by April 12 — we’ll read all the submissions and let you know if you’ve been selected as one of the night’s storytellers by April 17.

If you want to perform but are nervous, as always we’re here to help (all coaching comes with a self-confidence salad and a side of moral support).

To submit, tell us in a single sentence what your story is about, along with any other details, and email that to us: bombyxstories@gmail.com.

Short Films Screenings
17.00-17.45h @ Opposite Mess Hall

Once again we have selected the best of short films that came out in 2013 to be screened as part of WTF’s 4th anniversary celebration. This year we are screening 3 short films including “That Wasn’t Me,” an unnerving look at the issue of child soldiers in Africa that won Spain’s Goya last year and received political backing from various NGOs, “Do I Have to Take Care of Everything?”, a comedy from Finland about an overwhelmed mother trying to rush her disorganized family out the door for a friend’s wedding, and “Helium,” the winner of the Academy Awards this year for live-action shorts which tells a story of a terminally ill boy who is bored with the idea of heaven until he meets a janitor who concocts an alternative version of the afterlife.
