100% Shark: Photography & Information Exhibition » Sharkfin11

A buyer holds up two very large whale shark fins at a seafood wholesale market in Gunagzhou, Guangdong Province, China, November 23, 2010. Whale sharks are listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red list and are at high risk of extinction if fishing practices don’t change. The large fins are used as window displays for shark fin restaurants. About 73 million sharks are killed every year, and the appetite for their fins in places such as China, Hong Kong and Taiwan has taken one in three shark species to the brink of extinction.
